Some impurities in water (and wastewater) are exceptionally fine, and if be left to settle naturally, the required tank would need to be unfeasibly large. Bringing those particulates together to form larger particles that settle more readily is required, but often difficult to achieve. Electrical charges need to be overcome and a low amount of solids makes the process difficult. Coagulation/Flocculation is the process of creating conditions for particulates to come together to form flocs in coagulated water. The flocs readily settle and produce quality treated water.
